Mandefro Ayano, M.D.

HMD Internal Medicine

Dr. Ayano serves as a Senior Resident at HMD Internal Medicine, where he contributes to physician education and professional development through the review and development of evidence-based educational resources, including HMD iQbank, as well as mentorship and academic initiatives.

He is currently a PGY-3 Internal Medicine resident at the Tennova Internal Medicine Program, where he serves as Chief Resident, contributing to resident education, mentorship, academic programming, and clinical leadership.

He received his medical education at Addis Ababa University Medical Faculty in Ethiopia, where he developed a strong interest in clinical medicine and procedural specialties. He subsequently began neurosurgical residency training in Ethiopia before transitioning to Internal Medicine, broadening his clinical knowledge and developing an interest in complex medical conditions.

His clinical interests include Gastroenterology, particularly Hepatology, with a long-term goal of pursuing fellowship training and developing expertise in gastrointestinal and liver diseases. His academic interests include clinical research, quality improvement, medical education, and procedural medicine.

He is passionate about caring for patients with complex medical conditions, teaching and mentoring trainees, lifelong learning, and advancing physician education. His diverse training and leadership experiences have strengthened his adaptability, resilience, and commitment to compassionate, evidence-based patient care.
